The Masuter 3S is one of FoxAlien's strongest current 400 mm benchtop choices when you want a square 400 × 400 mm work area, more vertical travel than the Masuter Pro, closed-loop motors and a manufacturer-published aluminum claim. Its main tradeoff is that the exact motion architecture is not the same as XE-PRO: FoxAlien publishes a T12 lead screw and dual HG15 rails on the 3S Z axis, while XE-PRO publishes ball screws on all three axes.

The 400 × 400 × 95 mm envelope is the first practical upgrade over Masuter Pro

Masuter Pro and Masuter 3S share the same 400 × 400 mm X/Y class, but the published vertical figure changes from 60 mm on the Pro to 95 mm on the 3S. That does not make the 3S automatically better, but it gives more room for thicker stock, taller fixtures and tooling before you run into the machine's vertical geometry.

Closed-loop motors are a meaningful part of the 3S identity

FoxAlien publishes four NEMA23-76 closed-loop motors for the Masuter 3S and frames them around step-loss control. That is more useful than simply calling the machine “powerful”: it tells you the control architecture is designed to detect or manage positional error differently from an ordinary open-loop stepper setup.

The manufacturer also publishes a maximum moving speed up to 10,000 mm/min. Treat that as a travel/motion figure, not a promise of material removal rate. Cutting speed still depends on spindle, tooling, stock, workholding, toolpath and machine loading.

The Z axis has stronger published detail than the X/Y axes

The current exact page publishes a T12 lead screw and dual HG15 linear rails on Z. It also describes steel-wheel pulley elements elsewhere in the machine. CNC Router Match does not fill the remaining X/Y drive fields from inference, because FoxAlien does not publish the same exact all-axis drive description on the base Masuter 3S page that it publishes for XE-PRO.

This matters when comparing the two machines. An all-axis ball-screw statement is a real evidence difference, not something that should be assumed from brand family or similar appearance.

Aluminum capability is explicitly documented—but still conditional

FoxAlien states that the 400W spindle can engrave and cut soft metal such as aluminum, and the product description includes soft metal in the supported material list. That gives the Masuter 3S a stronger exact material-evidence record than machines where aluminum is merely inferred from spindle wattage or frame design.

The Pro remains a current lower-cost 400 mm platform with a very simple setup story, multiple clamp paths and a 4080 extension. The tradeoff is that the 3S's base purchase is more complex and more expensive than the Pro family.
